The short answer

Bandon Dunes Resort is a golf-only resort on the southern Oregon coast with five championship links courses (Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes, Bandon Trails, Old Macdonald, Sheep Ranch) plus the Punchbowl putting course and the Preserve par-3. All courses are walking-only with caddies. Pinseekers Travel runs 4-5 night trips year-round, with summer (June-September) being the most stable weather window.

On the Ground

Bandon is walking-only and most first-timers underestimate what 36 holes a day on links terrain does to their legs. We pace it: round one in the morning, late lunch, round two at twilight rates. By day three the group is moving better and scoring better. Don't try to play five rounds in three days here - you'll leave the trip too tired to enjoy the last day.

Bandon Dunes

David McLay Kidd (1999) · Cliff-top links · 6,732 yds, par 72

The course that started the resort. Six holes play directly along the Pacific cliffs. Kidd's first major design and still the player favorite for sheer drama.

Pacific Dunes

Tom Doak (2001) · Coastal dunes links · 6,633 yds, par 71

Most rankings put this in the world top 10. Three holes on the cliffs, the rest threaded through massive native dunes. Doak's masterpiece.

Bandon Trails

Coore & Crenshaw (2005) · Inland dunes / forest / meadow · 6,759 yds, par 71

The only inland course at the resort - starts in dunes, climbs into forest, finishes in meadow. The best Coore-Crenshaw routing on the property.

Old Macdonald

Tom Doak & Jim Urbina (2010) · Macdonald template links · 6,944 yds, par 71

A tribute to C.B. Macdonald's National Golf Links. Wide fairways, massive greens (the largest at the resort), and template holes (Redan, Biarritz, Cape, Road).

Sheep Ranch

Coore & Crenshaw (2020) · Cliff-top links · 6,797 yds, par 72

Nine holes touch the Pacific. No bunkers - only the cliff itself and natural waste. The newest course and immediately a top-ten resort layout worldwide.

Punchbowl

Tom Doak & Jim Urbina (2014) · Putting course · 100,000 sq ft putting course

Free, walk-up, drinks-in-hand. Perfect after-dinner ritual.

Bandon Preserve

Coore & Crenshaw (2012) · Short course · 13-hole par-3

Cliff-top par-3 course where every dollar of green fees funds the Wild Rivers Coast Alliance environmental nonprofit. Best last-day round on property.

Sample itinerary

A representative routing - every Pinseekers trip is tuned to the group's travel windows, handicaps, and tee-time preferences.

Day 5

Lodging & basecamp

Basecamp: Lily Pond Lodge or Chrome Lake (resort lodging)

All resort lodging is walking distance to the practice facility and the marquee Pacific Dunes / Bandon Dunes clubhouses. Cottages, lodge rooms, and chrome lake suites all work - match to group size and privacy preference. Houses for 8-12 are available for the largest groups.

When to go

June-September is the prime weather window: mid-60s, light wind, low rain probability. May and October are the value plays - slightly cooler with a higher rain chance, but rates drop 25%. Winter (November-April) is playable but exposed; only worth it for the most committed groups.

Getting there & transfers

Closest commercial airport is North Bend (OTH), 30 min from the resort, with limited service from SFO and DEN. Eugene (EUG) is the most reliable - 2 hr drive. Medford (MFR) is similar. Portland (PDX) is 3.5 hours but has the most flight options. Pinseekers arranges group transfers from any of these.
