The short answer
Northern Ireland packs more world-top-100 links courses into a smaller geography than anywhere on Earth. On the Ground
“Royal County Down is the best golf course on Earth in my opinion - and most groups don't allocate enough time to play it twice. We book the second round on the back end of the trip so you can apply what the first round taught you. Portrush, especially the Dunluce, is the second course most American golfers ever fall in love with on first play.”

The courses we play
| Course | Designer | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Royal County Down | Old Tom Morris (1889) / Harry Vardon revisions | Heathered linksland |
| Royal Portrush - Dunluce Links | Harry Colt (1933) / Mackenzie & Ebert revisions (2017) | Causeway Coast links |
| Royal Portrush - Valley Links | Harry Colt (1932) | Sheltered valley links |
| Ardglass | David Jones (modern routing of an 1896 club) | Cliffside Irish Sea links |
| Castlerock | Ben Sayers (1908) | Causeway Coast classic links |
| Portstewart - Strand Course | Willie Park Jr. (1894) / Des Giffin restoration (1992) | Towering-dune links |
Royal County Down
Old Tom Morris (1889) / Harry Vardon revisions · Heathered linksland · 7,204 yds, par 71
Routinely ranked top 3 in the world (Golf Digest #1 outside the US in multiple years). The Mountains of Mourne loom over the back nine, the heather-fringed bunkering is photographic, and the front-nine sequence (especially Hole 9) is among the best in golf.
Royal Portrush - Dunluce Links
Harry Colt (1933) / Mackenzie & Ebert revisions (2017) · Causeway Coast links · 7,344 yds, par 71
Host of the 2019 Open Championship (won by Shane Lowry) and returning for the 2025 Open. Spectacular cliff-edge holes (Hole 5, 'White Rocks,' is among the most photographed in the British Isles).
Royal Portrush - Valley Links
Harry Colt (1932) · Sheltered valley links · 6,304 yds, par 70
The 'second course' at Portrush - Hole 16 of Dunluce was actually carved from holes here in 2017 in preparation for The Open. Great Day-1 warm-up before the Dunluce.
Ardglass
David Jones (modern routing of an 1896 club) · Cliffside Irish Sea links · 6,243 yds, par 70
Front-nine clings to cliffs above the Irish Sea (the 2nd hole tee shot launches over the rocks). The 14th-century clubhouse is the oldest in the world. Quirky, charming, and a perfect counterpoint to the major-championship venues.
Castlerock
Ben Sayers (1908) · Causeway Coast classic links · 6,747 yds, par 73
Hidden gem on the Causeway Coast 15 minutes east of Portrush. Big dunes, true links rhythm, and a fraction of the cost of Royal Portrush. We use it as the relief round before Portrush.
Portstewart - Strand Course
Willie Park Jr. (1894) / Des Giffin restoration (1992) · Towering-dune links · 6,895 yds, par 72
The opening seven holes thread through some of the largest dunes in links golf - a cathedral-like start. Hosted the 2017 Irish Open. Pairs naturally with Royal Portrush as a 2-round Causeway day.

Day 4

Lodging & basecamp
Basecamp: Slieve Donard Hotel (Newcastle, County Down) + Bushmills Inn (Causeway Coast)
We split the trip between the two regions. The Slieve Donard sits beside Royal County Down (you can walk to the first tee). The Bushmills Inn is a 17th-century coaching inn with peat fires and is the right basecamp for Royal Portrush, Portstewart, and Castlerock. Premium tier upgrades to the Lough Erne Resort in Fermanagh or a private estate in County Down.
When to go
May, June, and September are the sweet spots - long daylight, dry weather, and peak conditioning. July and August can be busier (peak British vacation season) but daylight runs from 5 am to 10 pm. Avoid October-April; the Causeway Coast and Mournes weather is brutal in winter.
Getting there & transfers
BFS (Belfast International) has direct flights from LHR, EDI, AMS, and seasonal direct from EWR (United). Most US groups fly into DUB (Dublin) and drive 90 minutes north - Dublin has more daily transatlantic options. We arrange minibus transfers and an in-country driver for the duration.

Common questions about Northern Ireland golf trips
How much does a Northern Ireland golf trip cost per person?
Pinseekers Travel Northern Ireland trips run $6,500 - $11,000 per player. Final pricing depends on group size, season, lodging tier, the caddie program, and whether you add premium rounds or off-property activities. We publish standard, premium, and black-card tiers on this page; email events@pinseekerstravel.com with your dates and roster size and we'll come back with a custom quote within one business day.
What is the best time of year for a Northern Ireland golf trip?
The prime window for Northern Ireland is May - September. Conditioning, weather, and tee-time access all peak in that range. Shoulder months can drop pricing 20-30% with most days still playable. We don't book outside the prime window unless the group prefers off-season value over guaranteed weather - the "When to go" section above breaks down each month in detail.
How many days should a Northern Ireland golf trip be?
Most Northern Ireland groups travel for 6-8 nights / 6-8 rounds. Shorter than that and the marquee rounds feel rushed; longer and fatigue cuts into scoring on the closing days. We size every trip to the group's travel windows, handicaps, and how many courses they want to play - the sample itinerary on this page is one representative routing, not the only shape the trip can take.
What are the must-play courses at Northern Ireland?
The marquee rounds we sequence on a Northern Ireland trip are Royal County Down, Royal Portrush - Dunluce Links, Royal Portrush - Valley Links, Ardglass. Each is profiled in "The courses we play" section above with designer, course type, and the strategic reason it earns a tee time on the schedule. Additional add-on rounds and replay options are available for groups that want to extend the trip or get a second crack at a favorite layout.
What's the closest airport to Northern Ireland?
Most groups fly into BFS (Belfast Intl) or DUB (Dublin, 90 min drive). Pinseekers arranges group transfers from the airport to the basecamp and between courses for groups of four or more, with larger groups split across multiple vans. Private aviation arrivals are coordinated separately when the group has access. The "Getting there & transfers" section above lists the alternates worth considering.
Can I ship my golf clubs to Northern Ireland?
Yes. Pinseekers handles club shipping on every trip via Ship Sticks or Luggage Forward, with door-to-door pickup from your home or club and delivery to the resort bag room before arrival. Most groups ship one direction and fly back with their sticks; we coordinate the pickup window, the labels, and the resort hand-off so you land and play.
What's a typical group size for a Northern Ireland golf trip?
Northern Ireland trips typically run 8 - 16 players. The format suits bucket-list links pilgrimage, second British Isles trip, devoted golfers. Smaller groups (under the listed minimum) are workable but lose tee-time flexibility; larger groups need a custom build and a longer lead time for lodging blocks. Tell us your roster size in the brief and we'll size the routing - and the sample itinerary - around it.
How early should I book a Northern Ireland golf trip?
Book Northern Ireland trips six to twelve months ahead for prime-season dates. Marquee rounds and on-property lodging fill earliest, especially over weekends in the May - September window. Off-season and weekday trips can sometimes be confirmed inside 90 days. Send the brief as soon as the group's dates are firm; we hold tee times the same week the contract is signed.
Are caddies available at Northern Ireland?
Caddies are available at most Northern Ireland courses and required at a few. Pinseekers books the caddie program with the round - including forecaddies, pro-line caddies, and walking-only setups where the property requires it. We brief every caddie on the group's preferences before the round goes off, and tipping guidance is included in the trip packet so nobody is guessing on the first tee.
Does Pinseekers handle non-golfer activities at Northern Ireland?
Yes. Pinseekers coordinates non-golfer activities on every Northern Ireland trip - spa, dining, off-property tours, cultural experiences, fishing, and whatever else the group's spouses or non-golfing partners want to fit in. Tell us in the brief who's traveling and what they want to do, and we'll build the parallel schedule into the trip without making it feel like a separate booking.
