The short answer
Pinehurst Resort is the cradle of American golf - Donald Ross's home course, host to the US Open in 1999, 2005, 2014, and 2024 (with the 2029, 2035, 2041, and 2047 US Opens already scheduled). Pinseekers Travel runs 3-4 night Pinehurst trips with No. 2 as the marquee round, plus combinations of No. 4, No. 8, the new No. 10, and the Cradle. The Sandhills region offers reliable shoulder-season weather (March-May, September-November) and walkable resort logistics.

On the Ground
“Pinehurst No. 2 punishes the wrong miss in a way that doesn't show up on the scorecard until two days later. Most groups don't bring enough wedge variety. We tell players to pack three wedges minimum and practice the bump-and-run before they get on property - the crowned greens reject anything that lands hot and stops short.”

Pinehurst No. 2
Donald Ross (1907) / Coore-Crenshaw restoration (2011) · Sandhills / native areas · 7,548 yds, par 72
Host of four US Opens (1999, 2005, 2014, 2024), with the 2029 and beyond already booked. The Coore-Crenshaw restoration removed 35 acres of rough and brought back Ross's native sandy waste areas. Crowned greens punish anything but center-of-green approaches.
Pinehurst No. 4
Gil Hanse redesign (2018) · Sandhills / strategic links-style · 7,117 yds, par 72
Hanse's 2018 redesign turned No. 4 into a modern strategic counterpoint to No. 2 - wide fairways, sandy native areas, and angles-driven approach play. The locals' favorite of the Pinehurst rota.
Pinehurst No. 8 (the Centennial)
Tom Fazio (1996, the resort's 100th anniversary course) · Wetlands and rolling parkland · 7,099 yds, par 72
More variety than the other resort courses - wetlands, rolling terrain, and longer carries. Often the player favorite for strict golf enjoyment.
Pinehurst No. 10
Tom Doak (2024) · Sandhills minimalist · 7,084 yds, par 70
Doak's first Pinehurst course, opened on a former sand mine ten miles from the main resort. Native areas, big greens, and a refreshing minimalist take.
The Cradle
Gil Hanse (2017) · Short course · 789 yds, 9-hole par 3
Hanse's 9-hole short course in front of the clubhouse - drinks, music, no tee times, no carts. Best closing-night ritual in golf.
Thistle Dhu Putting Course
Tom Fazio (2012) · Putting course · 18 holes, putter only
18-hole bentgrass putting course built around the Donald Ross statue. Free to resort guests. Best after-dinner activity in the village.
Sample itinerary
A representative routing - every Pinseekers trip is tuned to the group's travel windows, handicaps, and tee-time preferences.
Day 1
Arrive, walk the village
Land RDU by midday, ~75-min transfer to Pinehurst. Check into the Carolina Hotel. Afternoon round on No. 8 (closer to the main resort, easier walk-in tee time). Cradle and Thistle Dhu after dinner.
Day 2
No. 2 - the marquee round
Caddie round on No. 2 in your preferred tee window. Long lunch at the Tin Whistle Pub. Afternoon at the USGA's Golf House Pinehurst museum or the village shops. Group dinner at Drum & Quill.
Day 3
No. 4 + Cradle
Morning round on No. 4. Afternoon: replay Cradle with stakes, hit the spa, or shoot Thistle Dhu for a round-robin putting tournament. Dinner at the Carolina Dining Room or the village.
Day 4
No. 10 closer + departure
Morning shuttle to No. 10 for the closing round. Lunch at the No. 10 clubhouse. Transfers back to RDU mid-afternoon.
Lodging & basecamp
Basecamp: The Carolina Hotel (main resort)
Carolina Hotel is the centerpiece - walking distance to the village, the clubhouse, and the Cradle. The Holly Inn is the smaller, more historic option in the village. Cottages and condos work for groups of 8+ who want a private base. All include resort access.
When to go
March-May and September-November are the prime windows: highs in the 60s-80s, low humidity, native areas at peak color (golden in fall, white-pine green in spring). Summer is playable but humid and hot. Winter (December-February) is the value play - courses stay open, rates drop 30%, and most days are mild.
Getting there & transfers
RDU (Raleigh-Durham) is the preferred airport - 75-minute drive on US-1 South. Charlotte (CLT) and Greensboro (GSO) are 90-120 minutes. Fayetteville (FAY) is closer (45 min) but limited service. Pinseekers arranges group transfers.

Tipping & budget tips
- Caddie tips at No. 2 are typically $80-$120 per bag. Cash is appreciated.
- The MAP (Modified American Plan) lodging rate covers breakfast and dinner - eating in the village every night doubles the food cost.
- Off-season rates (December-February, June-August) are 25-35% lower, and the courses still play firm and fast.
- The new No. 10 is a 10-minute shuttle from the main resort - build it as a Day 1 or Day 4 round so it doesn't interrupt the village rhythm.

How much does a Pinehurst Resort golf trip cost per person?
Pinseekers Travel Pinehurst Resort trips run $2,800 - $5,000 per player. Final pricing depends on group size, season, lodging tier, the caddie program, and whether you add premium rounds or off-property activities. What is the best time of year for a Pinehurst Resort golf trip?
The prime window for Pinehurst Resort is March - May, September - November. Conditioning, weather, and tee-time access all peak in that range. Shoulder months can drop pricing 20-30% with most days still playable. How many days should a Pinehurst Resort golf trip be?
Most Pinehurst Resort groups travel for 3-4 nights / 4-5 rounds. Shorter than that and the marquee rounds feel rushed; longer and fatigue cuts into scoring on the closing days. We size every trip to the group's travel windows, handicaps, and how many courses they want to play - the sample itinerary on this page is one representative routing, not the only shape the trip can take.
What are the must-play courses at Pinehurst Resort?

Additional add-on rounds and replay options are available for groups that want to extend the trip or get a second crack at a favorite layout.

Can I ship my golf clubs to Pinehurst Resort?
Yes. Pinseekers handles club shipping on every trip via Ship Sticks or Luggage Forward, with door-to-door pickup from your home or club and delivery to the resort bag room before arrival. Pinehurst Resort trips typically run 8 - 32 players. The format suits architecture-focused trips, US Open pilgrimage, buddies trips. How early should I book a Pinehurst Resort golf trip?
Book Pinehurst Resort trips six to twelve months ahead for prime-season dates. Marquee rounds and on-property lodging fill earliest, especially over weekends in the March - May, September - November window. Off-season and weekday trips can sometimes be confirmed inside 90 days. Send the brief as soon as the group's dates are firm; we hold tee times the same week the contract is signed.
Are caddies available at Pinehurst Resort?
Caddies are available at most Pinehurst Resort courses and required at a few. Pinseekers books the caddie program with the round - including forecaddies, pro-line caddies, and walking-only setups where the property requires it. We brief every caddie on the group's preferences before the round goes off, and tipping guidance is included in the trip packet so nobody is guessing on the first tee.
Does Pinseekers handle non-golfer activities at Pinehurst Resort?
